SINGAPORE, July 28 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — Asia’s longest running contemporary art fair will feature its first ever New Media Installation[1] this October at SUNTEC Singapore as part of its 10th year celebrations.

Titled A Rough Guide To (The Meaning Of A) Life 3.0: Moving Images and Meeting Kaidie (A)Live in Singapore!, the multimedia presentation will feature artist Tan Kai Syng’s online alter-ego Kaidie in her epic quest to find the meaning of life. The installation will include a short film as well as “live” sessions which will allow visitors to interact with Kaidie in Nondon via web-chat. Prior to this special upcoming appearance, Kaidie has also made appearances as a 3rd-Lifer-In-Residency in Villa Straeuli, Winterthur, Switzerland and at the Slade Centre of Research in London (http://3rdlifekaidie.com/2010/06/phd-show-5/ ).

Born in Singapore, Kai Syng has won many awards and grants throughout her career: at age 18, she was named “The Most Promising Young Artist” at the UOB Painting of the Year; and in 1998, the San Francisco International Film Festival Golden Gates Award New Visions Video Merit Award. Her work has been exhibited in more than 40 cities such as the Guangzhou Triennale 2009, Asia Art Biennale 2009 and ICA London 2005. Currently a scholarship MPhil/PhD student in Fine Media Art at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art in London, the artist has also worked as an art educator and consultant to numerous digital art projects.

Kai Syng currently has a permanent video installation, The Amazing Neverending Underwater Adventures at the Bras Basah MRT station on the Circle Line in Singapore. Commissioned by the Land Transport Authority, this is the only station with a video artwork. (Mayo Martin of the Today newspaper named this his favourite artwork of the Circle Line.) [2]

Fair Director of ARTSingapore 2010, Chen Shen Po, said, “This is the first time that ARTSingapore will be featuring a New Media exhibit by a Singapore artist. Artworks utilising multimedia technologies which engage multiple senses have been gaining in momentum in the art world, and Kai Syng’s installation will give visitors to ARTSingapore an introduction to this growing medium. We are also very happy that SONY Singapore has agreed to be our sponsor for this very special exhibit.”

Sponsored by SONY Singapore, the New Media installation will utilise a combination of projectors, speakers, TV monitors and an internet collection. The advanced monitors and projectors used will produce vibrant images to bring to life the colourful images of Kaidie. Limited editions of the artist’s photography will also be on sale at the fair.

Since its inception in 2000, ARTSingapore has regularly introduced exciting new features to its fair. Last year’s edition saw the introduction of the Asian International Photography Fair — the region’s only international platform for contemporary photography — as well as NEW FINDS dedicated to emerging artists and galleries from the region. Previous years also saw Special Collectors’ Showcases featuring artworks from the personal collections of the region’s most prolific collectors. Exciting fringe activities bringing art to the public have included established artists producing works on the dance floor of the then Ministry of Sound in 2007.

SINGAPORE, July 28 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — Abacus, Asia’s leading provider of travel solutions and services, today announced that Abacus-connected travel agents can benefit from a safer and wider choice of payment options that will energise sales, thanks to a new partnership agreement with AsiaPay Limited, a leader in Internet Payment Services.

With this partnership, Abacus-connected agencies can expand both their walk-in, call-in and online business with AsiaPay’s suite of advanced electronic payment and fraud prevention solutions, all within a 3D-secure and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCIDSS) compliant environment, the payment industry’s highest level of data security.

Agencies will be able to offer a variety of payment choices to their online & offline customers globally, covering credit and debit cards, and other well accepted payment methods. With 3D-secure payment processing, online agencies will further reduce their risk exposure of accepting card payments. Alarmingly, 60% of online merchants in a recent SagePay global survey were unsure if their payment partner was PCIDSS compliant, as many service providers are neither compliant nor certified.

Mr. Brett Henry, Vice President Marketing, Abacus International, said the combined regional expertise and local knowledge of the two leading Asian companies would bring valuable benefits to the travel industry’s payments security.

“Secure, convenient and cost-effective payment facilities are the biggest challenge faced by online merchants, especially traditional merchants who are entering the online market for the first time. Those agents who are unfamiliar with the dynamics of fraud, and their customers’ online payment behaviors are easy targets for fraudsters,” Mr. Henry said.

Today, the travel industry has lost about USD1.5 billion dollars to online payment fraud, and this trend is rising at double digit pace annually. Mr. Henry continued, “This partnership will assist agencies to grow their revenue domestically, regionally, and internationally by enabling travel merchants to offer card-and non-card-based payment options to their customers. In turn, this will significantly improve an agency’s ability to serve a segment of customers who do not own cards or bank accounts, for example, the three million GCASH users in Philippines.”

AsiaPay’s suite of solutions will enable agencies to capture payments securely via email, call center, walk-in, online portal, and mobile (in select markets). A recent study by CyberSource indicates that merchants that offer a range of the right payment options across sales channels and currencies have proven to increase sales by an average of 14 per cent.

AsiaPay CEO, Mr. Joseph Chan, said AsiaPay’s virtual Payment Point-of-Sale (POS) is a real-time, secure, premium service offering. “This solution enables travel consultants to capture payment and fulfill a sale immediately rather than transferring the task to the mid-or back-office (MBO) function and waiting for confirmation.”

Mr. Chan continued, “Travel providers and other industry merchants have seen improved internal credit card security, and increased sales, without additional monthly POS hardware or communications costs. In addition, through our partnership with Abacus, we are not charging seat license fees or limiting the number of virtual POS that an agency deploys.”

To make it more convenient for agencies, Abacus has also integrated AsiaPay’s fraud detection and prevention services, and payment services into Abacus PowerConnect and Abacus WebStart 2.0. By employing Abacus PowerConnect and/or Abacus WebStart, agencies that subscribe to AsiaPay will start to enjoy the benefits of a highly secured payment service.

Mr. Henry added that the integration will save agencies the thousands of dollars it costs to develop and incorporate payment services into their website. “Not to mention, it is near impossible to have your MBO provider enable such a service in the agency workflow.”

Mr. Chan added, “Our leading technology, expertise and strong local service support in Asia and China will provide agents with the peace of mind to continue to focus on growing their business and leveraging the benefits that comes with gaining access to new global markets and payment types via one convenient source.”

Beijing Capital Airport Marks Second Anniversary of Terminal 3 with New Hilton Property Serving Key Business and Industrial Center

BEIJING, and MCLEAN, Va., July 29 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — Hilton Hotels, the brand that invented the airport hotel concept, again sets a new standard with the opening of the first-ever luxury airport hotel in China. The grand opening of Hilton Beijing Capital Airport hotel and conference facility today highlights the two-year anniversary of Beijing Capital Airport’s Terminal 3 and continues to expand the services connected to the world’s second busiest passenger airport.

“Opening China’s first luxury international airport hotel generations after our founder pioneered the airport hotel concept is more than a noteworthy milestone. Hilton Beijing Capital Airport reflects the innovation, refreshing hospitality and contemporary relevance that enable us to deliver an exceptional experience for our guests and set Hilton as a leader in the eyes of today’s savvy global travelers,” said Dave Horton, Global Head, Hilton Hotels brand.

Beijing Capital Airport is the nerve center for international travelers in China as well as burgeoning business and industrial community that rings the airport. The airport has an average of 1,400 domestic and international flights daily and serviced more than 65 million travelers last year. The local business community surrounding the airport features a growing and vibrant mix of Chinese and multinational companies, which use Beijing for their global or regional headquarters.

Hilton Beijing Capital Airport, located right at Terminal 3, features more than 320 guest rooms, seven restaurants and bars with 32 private dining rooms, two ballrooms and 21 meeting rooms with more than 3,000 square meters of meeting space, executive concierge services, a luxury spa and state-of-the-art fitness center. The facility is 72,000 square-meters in size and built on more than 28,000 square meters of space that provides ample room for on-site event parking as well as pleasant gardens.

“The Beijing Capital Airport Authority has invested tremendous resources in new facilities and transportation infrastructure to make Terminal 3 a world-class service center for business and leisure travelers into and around China. With Hilton Hotels as our newest partner we are adding to the mix; international standards for meetings and conference facilities, top class restaurants and spacious rooms with a service brand that is well known and trusted around the world,” said Gang Wu, the General Manager of owning company, Beijing Capital Airport Tourism Co., Ltd.

While the concept of a luxury international airport hotel is new to China, such properties have been a standing part of the Hilton portfolio, with several new projects in development. In 2010, Hilton plans to open Hilton Rosemont/O’Hare, in the United States near Chicago O’Hare International Airport, while a new build Hilton property featuring a stylish horizontal skyscraper design at Frankfurt International Airport is scheduled to open in 2011.

“Hilton Beijing Capital Airport is a dynamic property that will become a top gateway to China, with international travelers staying overnight after long-haul flights before connecting to their final destinations. The hotel will host leisure guests and business travelers from top companies that want the convenience of Terminal 3 and Hilton standards for events, business, dining and guest services. Hilton continues rapid growth across Asia and this hotel brings a new dimension to our growing portfolio in Beijing, which already includes the world’s top lifestyle hotel and another of the city’s top metropolitan hotels,” said Martin Rinck, Area President – Asia Pacific, Hilton Worldwide.

In addition to balancing the needs of both international travelers and meeting planners, designing this unique hotel required striking a balance of international and Asian influences. The restaurant mix, for example, includes a wide range of offerings that run from fine Cantonese, served in all private dining rooms for the local business community, to prime aged steaks, to 24-hour convenient service for late-night travelers. Each location within the new Hilton has a unique profile with menus created by chefs specializing in that specific cuisine.

Meeting facilities were designed to balance the needs of different types of functions, as each ballroom has a private entrance, check-in and networking or entertaining areas. The meeting rooms, which are directly connected to the ballrooms to make for easy and convenient breakout sessions, include a mix of conference table and seating styles that are popular with both Asian and Western executive meetings. All meeting room areas are equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
